Title: SYNTHESIS OF In2S3 AND AgInS2 NANOPARTICLES AND THEIR APPLICATIONS

Abstract: In the present study, synthesis of indium sulfide (In2S3) and silver indium sulfide (AgInS2) nanoparticles was done via thermal decomposition method. The metal sulfide nanoparticles were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The band gaps for indium sulfide nanoparticles and silver indium sulfide nanoparticles are 2.2 eV and 2.0 eV, respectively. Dyes such as rhodamine B and methyl orange were successfully photodegraded using the metal sulfide nanoparticles as catalyst. Adsorption of congo red was also done using metal sulfide nanoparticles as the adsorbent.
