| Abstract: | This work focuses on the importance of gamma-ray measurement in various fields of nuclear technology and the need for radiation protection for human health. The study examines the gamma-ray shielding materials and buildup factors, essential parameters in gamma-ray measurement. The buildup factor is the ratio of total particles to uncollided particles at a given point. The research evaluates the gamma-ray buildup factors for Cu and Al sheets at different energies using Cs-137 and Co-60 radioactive sources. We experimentally try to obtain the buildup factor using the differences in a narrow and broad beam geometry. Behaviourr of the buildup factor is also observed with the varying detector-to-shield distance. Also we evaluate the shielding properties and build-up factor for new composite materials of PLA and Lignin. The study highlights the significance of accurate gamma ray measurement in different applications and emphasises the importance of proper shielding materials for radiation protection. |
