dc.description.abstractThis study investigates the nature and formation of a carbonate breccia in the Late Cretaceous marine sediments of central India, known as the Bagh Beds. Petrographic and geochemical analysis of the breccia in the study area reveals the triggering mechanism and process of brecciation. Based on petrography, four distinctive horizons were categorized within the brecciated units, with four distinctive infiltrating materials that overall evolved the brecciation process and events. Higher concentrations of Si and Sr-bearing clasts within the infilling materials indicate a volcanogenic source. The brecciation started from the top surface, leading to the collapse of the rock, and resulting in a breccia, supported by the presence of silicification signatures. The breccia is interpreted as a hydrothermal fluid-influenced collapse breccia, likely caused by a Si-rich hydrothermal fluid probably derived from the Deccan volcanism events, making the end of basinal sedimentation.en_US
