| Abstract: | Refers to the minimum time interval required for a detector to recover and be able to record another radiation event after it has detected the first one. This dead-time is affected by various factors such as the detector's geometry, material, and design, as well as other situation like temperature and generate voltage. The pulse processing dead-time, on the Other hand, is the time required for the electronics in the counting system to process and analyse the signal produced by the detector after it has detected a radiation event. This dead-time is dependent on the design and performance of the electronics used in the counting system. The total dead-time Of a radiation counting system is the sum Of its intrinsic dead-time and pulse processing dead-time. This dead-time limits the maximum counting rate of the System and can affect the accuracy ofthe measurements made by the system, particularly at high counting rates. To minimize the dead-time, various techniques are used, including optimizing the detector design and electronics, as well as using coincidence counting techniques. |
