Abstract: Surgical retractors play a crucial role in surgeries by keeping the incision or wound open until the surgery is completed, enabling the surgeon to operate. Despite their importance, issues related to these devices must be addressed, such as difficulty in handling and implementing them on patients. To address these challenges, a project is being developed to create a mechanism inspired by origami, which can simplify the current working of retractors while remaining scalable and affordable. The proposed mechanism will leverage the principles of origami to create a folding structure that can be easily manoeuvred, requiring less force to use and lessening the chances of procedures and situations. injury to the patient.
