| dc.description.abstract | Efficient material management is crucial for the successful completion of infrastructure projects. This thesis investigates the challenges faced in material management within the context of infrastructure projects and proposes strategies to optimize efficiency and cost effectiveness. Infrastructure projects require effective handling, procurement, storage, and utilization of materials. However, common issues such as inaccurate demand forecasting, delays in procurement, inadequate inventory control, and inefficient transportation logistics often hinder material management. Understanding these challenges is essential to develop effective strategies for improvement. This thesis establishes a comprehensive understanding of material management complexities through literature review, industry reports, and case studies. By employing surveys, interviews, and data analysis, critical factors influencing material management are identified, the impact of inefficient practices on project timelines and budgets is assessed, and strategies for enhancing material management efficiency are developed. Project size, complexity, geographic location, and procurement strategies are identified as key factors influencing material management in infrastructure projects. Recognizing these factors enables project managers to tailor their approaches accordingly. The potential benefits of adopting modern technologies and tools are explored. Advanced inventory management systems, real-time tracking, and data analytics can improve forecasting accuracy, optimize inventory levels, and facilitate proactive decision-making. Collaboration and coordination among project stakeholders are also emphasized to ensure efficient material planning, delivery, and utilization. Implementing the proposed strategies can lead to minimized material waste, reduced project delays, optimized resource allocation, and improved project outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction. Enhanced material management practices contribute to cost savings, improved project timelines, and increased profitability. In conclusion, this thesis provides practical recommendations for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness in material management for infrastructure projects.
