Abstract: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) or oral cancer is extremely common in India due to excessive use of tobacco and alcohol consumption. Surgical removal of cancer tissues followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy is majorly used to treat cancer patients. Despite developments in treatment methods, the survival rate of OSCC patients is very low. This is mainly because of the late diagnosis of the disease at an advanced stage. Even after successful surgical removal of cancer tissues, there have been frequent reports of recurrence of the disease. The onset of recurrence varies from patient to patient. Over the years, several biomarkers specific for oral cancer have been identified. These include p53, Ki67, EGFR, PCNA, ORF1, etc. The expression of these biomarkers often predicts the mortality of the OSCC patients after surgery. In this study, I tried to showed the expression of some key biomarkers, especially for EGFR and ORF1 in operated oral cancer.
