| Abstract: | Solar energy is a non-vanishing renewable source of energy that is free from environmental pollution and noise. It can easily compensate for the energy drawn from the non-renewable sources of energy such as fossil fuels and petroleum deposits inside the Earth. We know about a planar solar cell very well. The cost of planar solar cell is very high. So, we need to develop a technology where cost should be less and efficiency can be enhanced. Silicon nanowires are a 1D semiconductor that shows a promising application in the area of Solar Cell. SiNWs can be fabricated by using the VLS method, Electron beam lithography and MACE process. SiNWs are both electronically and optically active. SiNWs enhances the efficiency of Solar cell due to electrical, optical and physical properties that can be controlled by the tunning of the diameter of the SiNWs. The SiNWs shows an inherent capability to be utilized in Axial junction silicon solar cell, to stipulate anti-reflection and enhanced carrier collection. This thesis is devoted to the Investigation of Axial junction silicon solar cell. The main focus of the thesis is to enhance the efficiency of a solar cell by using silicon nanowire arrays. |
