The steady-state operation of the electrical power system can be achieved by controlling the reactive power flow. The correct handling of the power flow will maintain the systems voltage constant and stability margin of the transmission system. We will investigate the use of a static Var compensator, the Fixed Capacitor-Thyristor Regulated Reactor (FC-TCR), to improve voltage stability limits in electrical transmission systems. For the same reason, further modelling and simulation of the FC-TCR model will be obtained in MATLAB. SVCs are part of the FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) technology, which are used to increase transmission line capability and make the power system more efficient and stable. The uncompensated system's stability is first determined, then compared to the results of compensating the system with the SVC unit. This dissertation explains how to determine the voltage stability of a power system and how to determine it.en_US
