Abstract: The development of television, radio and communication services has resulted in a demand for high structures to carry a radiating antenna. A structurally economic way of doing this is by means of guyed microwave towers. . The exact analysis of a guyed microwave tower is beset with many difficult issues. The statical analysis for an equivalent static wind load, is itself a nonlinear one. The present work addresses to the simplified linear analysis of guyed tower by a matrix displacement method applied to the complete assembly of the guys and the .tower. The guys have been considered as straight members with effective modulus . of elasticity of cable material. This reduces not only the final number of equations to he solved but also decreases numerical instability in the solution. The method considers the combined • structure i.e. tower and guys as a space frame. The analysis of tower has been carried out for both with and without slackness of 'Guys. Computer programs have been developed for PC-AT (Personal Computer) for the calculation of wind loads on tower and for the linear analysis of the guyed tower as a space frame. The formulations and the computer program have been checked for the design of a 60 m high guyed microwave tower at Khat, as proposed by RDSO (Research Design and Standard Organisation), Luoknow.
