dc.description.abstractIndia is prone to various types of disasters such as earthquake, flood, tsunami, cyclone, landslide, etc. India is susceptible to such disasters because of several natural and anthropogenic factors, such as adverse geo-climatic conditions, population growth, topographic features, degradation of environment, rural-urban migration, industrial growth, unplanned developmental practices, etc. These factors are mainly responsible for multiplying the frequency and aggravating the impact of disasters which cause heavy socio-economic as well as biodiversity loss. In the wake of Bhuj earthquake and the tsunami of 2004 Government of India forced to enacted National disaster management act, 2005.The National Disaster Management Act provides for a detailed framework from the Union and state government to the district and local levels to prepare, execute and implement a disaster management plans in the country. India’s National Disaster Manager Authority (NDMA) is the apex agency to initiate processes to alleviate suffering arising out of various disasters such as natural, man-made, biological, chemical and hydrological disasters. It was created under the framework of National Disaster Management (DM) Act 2005, which provides in it superseding powers to make rules and regulations for prevention, containment, evacuation, providing relief to victims in unfortunate situations of disaster.en_US
