| dc.description.abstract | In hilly areas at the slopes, there are numerous problems that are created by rainfall or groundwater present there. One such problem is Debris Flow. Debris flow is defined as a fast moving landslide which flows like a liquid under the effect of gravity. This phenomenon is common in many places in India like in Pune, Kerala, Ladakh, etc. This results in loss of life, loss of habitat along with other major economic losses. There are many studies on Landslide Zonation Mapping that deals with the research part of this problem, but problems arise when there are no mitigation measures to back up those studies. Hence in these situations, the mitigation part is also crucial. In this dissertation, for the study of debris flow, RAMMS software is used. It works on numerical methods that are objective in nature, hence under similar conditions they always give same results and that makes it a reliable method. For the simulation of debris flow various parameters are considered such as friction factors, yield stress, erosion information, etc. This software gives results in the form of a simulation of Debris Flow. Along with it, information such as velocity, momentum, height is also obtained at each point, which helps with mitigation measures that need to be adopted at that place. The aim of this study is to observe those critical areas so that it can help in providing a solution to the existing problems and can help in reducing the losses that occur due to it. | en_US |
