At present fuel mix in paper industry in India comprises mainly of coal, petroleum fuels, biomass and electricity with the first two providing more than 68% of the total final energy consumption. The focus of paper industry is now shifting towards more eco-friendly products and technology. It is desirable to reduce fossil fuel consumption while meeting the increasing energy demand of paper industry. This may have the twin benefits of reduced consumption of fossil fuels and lowering of greenhouse gas emissions. Solar steam generating systems using parabolic trough concentrators have been in use for the past decade in several countries in the world. During the past few years, various R & D efforts have been put into use to improve the performance. A detailed solar plant simulation and analysis of its components is needed for the design of parabolic trough solar systems. Thus, a heat transfer analysis and modeling of a parabolic trough solar collector is necessary.en_US
