Abstract: The recent trend in power generation are renewable energy sources and their integration into the grid. Microgrids became popular because of the ease, they create to connect wind generation system, solar power generation with conventional power generation. In this report, the introduction to microgrids is presented along with stability issues faced in microgrids. The wind generation system with suitable controllers is discussed because wind generation system is one of the main parts in microgrid. The primary control of microgrids includes conventional droop control and improved droop control techniques. These droop controls are used for maintaining constant power generation from distributed generators. The distributed generators consist of back to back converters and it is presented how the output voltage, active and reactive power are brought to required values by generating the appropriate switching signals to inverters, using voltage controllers, current controllers and droop controller. The wind generation system with Permanent magnet synchronous generator and VSG algorithm models are generated in Simulink to observe the output waveforms when certain parameters are changed.
