| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to study the methods for allocating losses to distribution system and to execute an allocation method which gives optimum results. The whole study mainly focuses on the variation of network losses when distributed generations are introduced and its effect on the whole system. The study takes into consideration that losses and power flow have a non linear relationship and the change in losses of the network due to voltage variations. The study focuses on an approach which is branch oriented and also tracing of real as well as reactive power of loads and distributed generators. Forward backward sweep load analysis is carried out on the test networks initially to calculate the losses. The main advantage of the loss allocation technique discussed in this thesis is its simplicity and effectiveness since it only requires the solution obtained by power flow for sharing of losses to distributed generations and loads. A Network reduction method has been successfully tested in 28 node and 33 node distribution networks. The results thus obtained are analysed and compared with the other existing method to check its efficacy. | en_US |
