| Abstract: | The transportation sector is one of the major sources of CO2 emissions because of its dependency on fossil fuels. Urban areas are highly polluted due to vehicle emissions. Several cities of India are listed in most polluted cities in the world, so the Indian government is pushing hard in order to shift clean and sustainable energy sources for the transportation sector. This study aims to identify the deep insight into different dimensions of the factors influencing the adoption of electric vehicles. It is found that there are several theories for the diffusion of new technologies, but few are well suited to the electric vehicle’s adoption, such as TAM, TRA, TPB, and DIT. The influencing factors were found to lie within: demographics, technological factors, government interventions, environmental perspective, marketing perspective, consumers perspective, infrastructure readiness, and economical factors. Based on the proposed model was used to setup online survey which was conducted for a period of three months and gathered 542 responses from different parts of India, out of which 311 were retained. Descriptive analysis, exploratory factor analysis and ordered logit model were used to extract relevant information from the survey. Socio-demographic, technological factors (range anxiety and charging time) and government interventions were found very high significant for the time adoption of EVs. Marketing perspective was found irrelevant in Indian context while rest all factors found sufficient evident to be relevant to EV adoption. The findings provides meaningful insights, recommendation and future work. |
