Millions of people lost their lives or incur disabilities from road accidents. Most of these happen as a result of driver negligence. A Driver Assistance System assists the driver to reduces human error. Thereby, reduces the number of road accidents. The system either provides driver alerts or may take complete control if necessary. DASs are going to be an integral part of the modern transportation system. Lane Detection and Tracking is a fundamental step of DASs like warning systems for lane departure and assistance systems for lane changing and keeping. This report provides an introduction to Lane Detection and Tracking. It emphasizes var ious techniques involved, covering procedures, classifications, and challenges. It provides a detailed literature review to be acquainted with research areas and gaps in the field. It proposes a Lane Detection and Tracking algorithm using Image Processing evaluated against Caltech dataset. Finally, it presents hardware implementation on NI Compact RIO.en_US
