Roorkee Municipal Corporation (RMC) is a local government in Roorkee, India, that is part of the Roorkee Metropolitan Region. According to the 2011 census, the RMC has a land area of 28.91 km2 and a population of 1.84 lakh people. By 2021, the population is expected to be 3,66,913 people, with a growth rate of 3.77 %, according to UN World Urbanization Prospects. Every day, it produces about 104 tonnes of municipal solid waste, or 0.28 kg per capita per day. The Saliyar dump receives approximately 70% of waste. Rainwater percolating through this waste becomes contaminated, containing dissolved organic and inorganic substances, as well as suspended particles. Leachate is the term for this contaminated liquid. Annual precipitation, runoff, infiltration, evaporation, transpiration, and freezing, as well as waste type, waste density, beginning moisture content, and waste fill depth, all influence leachate development. Leachate from landfills may leak into the subsoil, contaminating ground and surface water supplies. The goal of this research is to determine the characteristics of landfill leachate in Saliyar. From the Saliyar dump site, two samples of leachate were taken. Physico-chemical analysis of leachate revealed that it has high amounts of organic and inorganic constituents that exceed the allowed limits. The study aids in the understanding of landfill leachate's contamination potential, and Knowing the quality of leachate will help with the design and implementation of remedial actions to protect the surface and ground water quality of nearby areas.en_US
