Title: POWER FLOW THROUGH VSC-HVDC USING NEWTON RAPHSON METHOD
Authors: Kumar, Abhishek

Abstract: This report presents the comparison of various models of VSC-HVDC based power flow solution methodologies. Since the HVDC enables more efficient power transfer above the break ever distance, the recent load flow studies have been including various HVDC models. Generally, in these studies, VSCs are treated as idealized controlled voltage sources which do not include the properties of PWM control. Also, since the VSCs are made of switches, the inclusion of switching and ohmic losses should be done. Some recent studies have been including PWM characteristics with the use of LTC transformers. The phase angle of the LTC transformer represents phase shifting characteristics of PWM and the transformation ratio represents the scaling nature of PWM control. Thorough the same representation, Back to Back VSCs model has been solved using Newton Rapson’s Method to get power flow and losses in the network.
