| Abstract: | Long column free spaces are primary requirement in the construction of airport terminal buildings, hangars and cargo buildings for functional and architectural requirements. This leads to the requirement long span roof structural systems. Various types of structural systems are used in the construction of these roofs according to the need of clear span required, functional requirements, economy, architectural requirements, ease of construction, local material availability, etc. The present work tried to investigate the various types of structural systems employed for the construction of long span roofs & factors affecting them in the airport terminal buildings and hangars across the globe. Analysis and Comparison of three different structural systems, a three-way double layer space truss and a single layer barrel vault & beam string structure is done for the Roof Truss of New terminal building of Dehradun Airport using STAAD-Pro. Results and unit area weight is compared for these systems. A cable stayed Hangar roof is modelled as an alternative to the existing space frame hangar at Mumbai airport using SAP 2000. The results are compared. |
