| dc.description.abstract | City sanitation plan involves strategic planning of processes for the city-wise development of the sanitation status. The vision, mission, and objectives of city sanitation plans, as well as methods to achieve these goals, address both technical and non-technical aspects of sanitation services. In the present study focused on Deoria city, data regarding population, solid waste management, and sewage has been collected from various sources. The efforts were made to prepare the city sanitation plan of Deoria city focusing exclusively on solid waste management and sewage treatment facilities. The work includes the study of the existing status of sanitation in the city, identifies the major bottlenecks in implementing a 100% sanitation plan, and offer suggestions to improve the overall sanitation. In this dissertation work projection of population and solid waste, and design and cost of landfill and sewage treatment plant, has been done in detail by using appropriate methods. The population of Deoria city with 16.28 square kilometers area was 129479 according to the census of 2011. Solid waste generation per day was 32.36 tons in 2011, which will increase up to 50 tons per day in the next fifteen years and a landfill area of 44000 square meters will be required for this management. This dissertation work attempts to quantify the sanitation facilities in Deoria city for both present and future populations. It is aimed to find solutions related to sanitation problems for existing and future populations. Besides this, the demand for additional infrastructure and facilities needed in the future is estimated e.g., future demand of water supply, toilets, sewage management, etc. The key problems that need to be resolved for successful solid waste management facilities in the city are solid waste segregation, waste collection worker preparation, and an insufficient number of bins and transfer stations. In addition, there is a need for a sewage treatment plant due to the lack of a sewage treatment plant. The costs of the activities and actions needed to handle solid waste and liquid waste from conception to final disposal for the city are presented. Finally, a city sanitation plan is presented and addressed, which includes the locations of specified landfills, sewage treatment plants, and ward-wise community toilets. | en_US |
