dc.description.abstractSoil Structure Interaction (SSI) is an important aspect which is considered for many civil engineering structures for designing purpose. Some researchers have brought up the advantages of using SSI based designing. It is known fact that foundation plays an important role in causing SSI as it acts as an interface between superstructure and soil medium. The foundation of structures can either be embedded at shallow depths or elevated depths based on the superstructure loads. The interaction between the soil and structure depends on the properties of both foundation as well as underlying soil. Therefore, it is important to consider the interactions taking place at soil structure interface. The preliminary investigations of studying SSI commences with assessment of free field condition. But recently due to the emergence of SSI, researches have showed that consideration of free field is causing overestimation of design forces in the form of responses at the ground surface. This is because of the interaction of embedded foundation with the soil where the difference in stiffness plays a major role in causing alteration of seismic waves.en_US
