Concrete Filled Steel Tubes (CFST) have been widely in use for construction for the last three decades due to their high load bearing capacity, high stiffness, high ductility, fire resistance, and energy absorption during earthquakes. CFST does not require any formwork which results in a faster pace of construction. The floor area required for CFST is less than compared to other structures of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) construction and steel construction. During the course of this project, the behavior of circular and square CFST stub columns under axial load was studied. Numerical analysis was carried out to validate the previous research undertaken with respect to behaviour of CFST under axial loads. Numerical analysis was done by Finite Element Modelling (FEM) using the software - ABAQUS 6.21. Parametric studies were carried out based on the following factors: Depth-thickness (D/t) ratio, the thickness of steel tube ‘t’, and grades of infilled concrete (M20, M25, M30 and M35).en_US
