| Abstract: | SPSW is a system which can be used in buildings to provide resistance to lateral loads like earthquake loads and wind loads. Steel plate shear wall system primarily consists of two components namely boundary frame and steel plate infill panel which can either be bolted or welded to boundary elements. Boundary elements consists of columns and beams which are also known as vertical boundary element and horizontal boundary element respectively. Usually VBE’s and HBE’s are moment connected to each other just like special moment resisting frame (SMRF) connections. Steel infill panels used are slender and can be made up of either high or low strength Steel. Steel plate shear wall system can also be applied in retrofitting of old structures. |
