The need of river training work is essential as river can change its path in extreme flooding events. So, importance of the structures created along or across the river can be damaged. Without river training, stream bank erosion in rivers can occur. I-head groynes used as a solution for river training by increasing the depth of flow and deflect the flow away from the bank. Different kind of head shapes of groynes is inspired from I-head groynes. The turbulence and fluctuations of upstream water along the river bank of the flow changes in a certain alignment after the introduction of groynes. So, the safety of the groynes should be ensured by understanding mean and turbulent flow characteristics, scour pattern along the flow, time averaged three dimensional velocity distribution, Reynolds stresses, turbulent kinetic energy and bed shear stresses. The comparison of two gyoynes, i.e I-head groynes and T-head groynes by above measurements can better describe the importance for the head shape of the groynes with same flow parameters, Reynolds number and Froude number of experimental channel. From the obtained results, we can find the importance of T-head groynes which can be implemented in future river training works.en_US
