Abstract: In this dissertation, an attempt has been made to analyse skew slab bridges by the finite element method using eight noded isoparametric serendipity brick element, shell elements and different elements were also tried out but it was seen that brick elements give better results for shear. For the finite element formulation software package ANSYS (version 7) has been used. The modeling carried out is applicable for any skew angle and aspect ratio of slab bridges. Different types of I.R.C. loadings(Class AA Tracked and Class A) have been incorporated in the modeling and also different live load positions have been considered, so that maximum stresses development on the slab can be obtained. The detailed analysis and parametric study has given a useful insight for analysis of skew bridges. The main parameter considered were angle of skew, span length and width of bridge. On the basis of this analysis certain guidelines for quick analysis of skew slab bridges have been recommended in the conclusions. The results of this analysis are useful for design engineers working in the analysis of skew slab bridges iii
