Abstract: In this project, we focus on satellite control and the derivation of minimum norm steering controls for artificial satellites. The main goal of this study is to compute the necessary controllers while also investigating the satellite’s controllability within its space orbit. We first build a mathematical model and then simplify the mathematical model to understand how satellites move and how we can control them. We’ll use MATLAB to run simulations and see if our control ideas actually work. We’ll show the code we used, the results we got, and the graphs to understand what’s happening. At the beginning of this project, we looked at dynamical equations of motion that explain how satellites move around the Earth. After that, we changed all those equations into polar coordinates. This modification simplifies the equations and makes it easier to understand how satellites move. Then, we derived the state space representations of our mathematical model and linearized it. And finally, we discussed our main problem, which is the controllability of the satellite problem. Here we discussed the controllability of the satellite problem by the Kalman rank condition and explained the effect of thrusters on controllability.
