Abstract: Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind farm is gaining popularity these days because of its inherent advantages like variable speed operation and independent controllability of active and reactive power over conventional Induction Generators. When interconnected with power grid, it brings voltage stability problems during grid-side disturbances. So integration issue, especially transient behavior, of DFIG-based wind farm to power grid is major concern for power system engineers today with the present requirements. This dissertation report presents the transient analysis of a grid connected DFIG driven by wind turbine. For this purpose, the dynamic modeling of the grid connected DFIG based wind turbine has been carried out. Models have been prepared for different components of the system under consideration under MATLAB/SIMULAINK environment and then, different models have been aggregated together to simulate the entire system. Finally, transient analysis of a grid connected DFIG based wind turbine has been carried out under different conditions viz, grid interconnection, sudden loading, sudden unloading and faults (both symmetrical and unsymmetrical).
