This dissertation presents an efficient method to analyze Well Log data using fractal concepts. The program designed for applying this method to well log data generates IFS images and corresponding images of coarse graining with data selected by a specific data window having a definite shift. This is how the entire data range is scanned and outputs are generated. One must judiciously choose the value for the window size and the window shift to obtain optimum results. The well data used in this dissertation is synthetic data but the idea can be extended to real well log data as well. The main purpose of this dissertation was to fmd a fractal pattern in IFS images of well log data especially for hydro carbo n- bearing wells. Thus, the data synthesized was for hydrocarbon wells only. We have achieved very good fractal patterns in our data and can say that well log data of hydrocarbon bearing wells exhibit fractal behaviour.en_US
