Reservoir characterisation study of a part of area belonging to a western onshore field in India was undertaken using concepts of seismic inversion to find the probable hydrocarbon accumulations. Process of pre-stack inversion of seismic data has been carried out to generate Pimpedance and Vp/Vs volumes. From the Rock physics analysis of well log data, it was observed that it was not possible to discriminate the hydrocarbon sands from the rest of the lithologies in P-impedance and Vp/Vs domain. So, the Bayesian probabilistic route was taken for the identification of most probable hydrocarbon bearing geo-bodies, as there was a considerable overlap in various litho-facies. One sizeable and most probable hydrocarbon geo-body has been extracted in the area which lies in the north eastern region of the field. Four other clusters of hydrocarbon bearing geo-bodies are captured in the south-western region.en_US
