Abstract: The chemical valorisation of lignocellulose biomass holds significant promise for the sustainable production of bio-based chemicals and fuels. This study focuses on the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass, including spruce, beech, and miscanthus, into value-added products, with a specific emphasis on the production of dialdehyde cellulose. The conversion process involves sequential steps of oxidation, extraction, and acid hydrolysis, aiming to maximize the yield of dialdehyde cellulose from the raw biomass materials. In addition to the experimental work, this thesis provides a comprehensive overview of biorefinery processes and valorization techniques, highlighting the potential of dialdehyde cellulose as a platform chemical for various applications. The testing methods employed in this study, such as photometry, carbonyl content titration, IR analysis, and microscopy, are thoroughly described to ensure the reproducibility and accuracy of the results. Furthermore, the economic and energy efficiency analysis of the valorization process is presented, shedding light on the viability and sustainability of integrating dialdehyde cellulose production into biorefinery operations.
