| Abstract: | This report details the validation of the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) through numerical simulations, aligning its results with a specific research paper's experimental data on fire dynamics in an enclosed space. The research paper outlines an experimental setup with a room featuring a methane burner, plasterboard wall lining, and strategically placed K thermocouples for gas temperature measurements. The computational domain for FDS mirrors these conditions, including an indoor gas domain, a 0.1m thick cei ling, walls, and a solid floor. Key focus areas for validation include temperature distributions at critical locations below the ceiling. The mesh configuration in FDS, employed for the numerical simulations, is scrutinized to ensure alignment with the spe cifications outlined in the research paper. Emphasis is placed on the mesh's role in accurately representing the geometry and capturing relevant physical phenomena. Comparison criteria and metrics are defined to assess the agreement between numerical simul ations and experimental data. Successful validation not only affirms the accuracy of FDS but also enhances confidence in its application for understanding fire dynamics. This study sets the stage for potential advancements in fire modeling tools and methodologies. |
