| Abstract: | Software-defined Networking (SDN) is an approach to networking that relies on softwarebased controllers or application programming interfaces (APIs) to communicate with underlying hardware infrastructure. The SDN is solely focused on separating the Control plane, which decides how packets should flow through the network, from the data plane, which is responsible for moving the packets from one node to another. As a network scales up, the efficient distribution of network traffic load on each network component becomes an important goal to achieve. In the absence of proper monitoring and handling of resource utilization, it is possible that one network component, such as a switch and router, gets exhausted from the network traffic while other components are sitting idle. Load balancing strategies are crucial in SDN-enabled networks for several reasons such as optimizing resource usage, improving fault tolerance, and Scalability challenges. We can use distributed SDN instead of Centralized SDN Controller to enhance the scalability of the SDN-based networks. Using Distributed SDN also reduces the issue of a single point of failure. another way to achieve load balancing in SDN-enabled networks is to monitor the load on each network component periodically, and manually distribute the load through the other components if necessary. Distributed can be significantly useful in integration with the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) and VANETs, to improve the efficiency and reliability of the network. |
