| Abstract: | This work focuses on the digital control of a DC boost converter for DC microgrid applications. The objective of this research is to develop a digital control strategy for the DC boost converter to ensure the appropriate operation of DC microgrid systems. The proposed control scheme utilizes a Proportional-Integral (PI) controller to regulate the output voltage of the boost converter while maintaining stability. Furthermore, the control algorithm incorporates digital implementation techniques to enhance the performance and efficiency of the converter, to achieve this objective, the thesis first provides an overview of DC microgrid architectures and the role of power electronic converters in their operation. Next, the principles of operation of the DC boost converter are discussed, along with the design considerations for digital control implementation. The development and simulation of the digital control algorithm are presented using MATLAB/Simulink, followed by hardware-in-the-loop the (HIL) validation to assess real-world performance by Real-time simulator(OPAL-RT). The proposed digital control strategy is evaluated through extensive simulations and experimental tests under various operating conditions, including changes in load, input voltage fluctuations, and transient responses, and the transient response time is analyzed to validate the effectiveness of the digital control approach. However, with the advent of digital technologies, the paradigm is shifting towards digital control methods due to their flexibility, programmability, and the ability to integrate advanced control algorithms. |
