Abstract: The integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems into distribution feeders has become imperative in modern power systems, driven by the need for sustainable energy sources and grid resilience. This thesis delves into the intricate dynamics of solar PV integration within an 18-bus distribution feeder of IEEE 33 bus distribution network, focusing on the pivotal role of PV inverter control and On Load Tap Changer (OLTC) adjustments in voltage regulation under varying operating conditions. By synthesizing insights from existing literature and theoretical analyses, the study meticulously examines a spectrum of centralized and decentralized voltage control methodologies, evaluating their competence in managing voltage profiles and fortifying system stability. Through a series of comprehensive case studies and simulations, the research scrutinizes the performance of diverse PV inverter control strategies and OLTC adjustments in tackling overvoltage and undervoltage contingencies. This includes analyzing the potential of reactive power injection from solar PV systems and OLTC operations to curb voltage excursions while maximizing energy yield. The findings underscore the critical importance of optimized PV inverter control algorithms and strategic OLTC adjustments in maintaining voltage within prescribed thresholds, thereby averting grid instability while ensuring efficient energy utilization.
