Abstract: Recent advancements in mobile communication networks have sparked interest in Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), offering transformative potential to enhance wireless communication efficiency and capacity. This thesis investigates the integration of RIS technology within these networks, focusing on its application to mitigate challenges such as feed blockage encountered with traditional horn antennas. A key innovation proposed and evaluated is the Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna (AVA), designed to overcome these obstacles through its broad bandwidth and directional radiation properties. Methodologies include detailed simulations and experimental measurements, demonstrating the AVA's robust performance in achieving impedance matching and minimizing reflection losses across various frequency bands. Furthermore, this research validates the practical implementation of RIS by analyzing its ability to dynamically control electromagnetic wave propagation and optimize communication system reliability. Results indicate significant improvements in signal strength and coverage, affirming RIS as a pivotal technology for future wireless networks. This thesis contributes a comprehensive exploration of RIS technology's deployment strategies and performance enhancements, crucial for advancing the capabilities of next-generation wireless communication systems. By addressing feed blockage issues with innovative antenna design and validating RIS effectiveness through rigorous experimentation, this research establishes a solid foundation for leveraging intelligent surface technologies in real-world applications. The findings not only underscore the feasibility of integrating RIS into existing network infrastructures but also highlight its potential to revolutionize wireless communication by optimizing spectral efficiency, enhancing signal quality, and enabling adaptive beamforming capabilities across diverse operational scenarios.
