Abstract: This dissertation delves into the pressing requirement for a sustainable public health infrastructure in Patna City, India. It addresses the significant health challenges that the urban population grapples with such as insufficient healthcare facilities, poor sanitation, and the surge of non-communicable diseases due to swift urbanization. The study aims to scrutinize the existing healthcare system, forecast the health infrastructure needs up to 2041, and devise a sustainable health development plan for Patna City. A comprehensive literature review of national policies and guidelines, including the URDPFI and the National Health Policy 2017, and case studies of successful health initiatives like Delhi’s Mohalla Clinics and Kerala’s family health centers, helps identify the gaps in the current healthcare infrastructure. The key findings underscore the significant deficiencies in healthcare facilities and beds per capita, with Bihar ranking low among Indian states. Environmental and sanitation challenges, such as high pollution and inadequate sanitation, contribute significantly to health issues. The research underscores the need for policy reforms and improved governance to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure equitable access to quality services. Recommendations include improving the distribution of healthcare services, integrating sustainable practices like clean water and green spaces into urban planning, and fortifying implementation frameworks. The study concludes that the development of sustainable urban health infrastructure is crucial for addressing the health crises brought about by urbanization, ensuring health equity, and fostering resilient communities in Patna City. This dissertation is a step towards understanding and addressing the health challenges faced by urban populations in developing countries like India. It provides a roadmap for policymakers and health administrators to improve public health infrastructure and services in Patna City, thereby enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
