| dc.description.abstract | Tourism stands as a critical economic sector, particularly for rural areas globally, providing essential income and opportunities. As urban migration intensifies, with an estimated 68% of the global population residing in cities by 2050, rural areas, where 80% of extreme poverty currently exists, face unique challenges. Youth in these regions experience triple the unemployment rates of older individuals, underscoring the necessity for sustainable rural development. Rural tourism, promoted under India's "Incredible India" and "Explore Rural India" initiatives, aims to leverage cultural heritage, local cuisine, and traditional lifestyles to boost rural economies and curtail urban migration. Bhedaghat, located in Madhya Pradesh's Narmada Valley, epitomizes the potential of rural tourism. Renowned for its geological wonders, such as the marble rocks and Dhuandhar Waterfall, and cultural sites like the 10th-century Chausath Yogini Temple, Bhedaghat attracts a global audience. However, the region's growing popularity necessitates sustainable development to preserve its fragile ecosystem and cultural heritage. This study emphasizes sustainable tourism development in Bhedaghat, proposing strategies for employment generation, tourism enhancement, carrying capacity management, and revenue generation. Proposals include infrastructure improvements, solid and liquid waste management systems, and controlled tourism activities to prevent ecological degradation. By empowering local communities, promoting local art and crafts, and fostering responsible tourism, these initiatives aim to balance tourism growth with environmental preservation, ensuring long-term socio-economic benefits for the region. The collaboration between Bhedaghat Nagar Parishad and the Town and Country Planning Office, Jabalpur, is crucial in implementing these sustainable development strategies effectively. | en_US |
