Abstract: | Lignin is a bio-based material that is widely available and ranks 2nd most abundant organic material in the world. It has great potential as a renewable resource for the development of new compound and Currently, lignin is currently use in lower-value applications and for energy production, heating purpose and chemical recycling in the pulp and paper industry but, its use in other areas is limited, and only a small amount is utilized for different purpose. Due to its different benefits, lignin has significant research attention for its potential use in replacing traditional adhesive base material like phenol and melamine, either partially or completely, lignin is combined with other biomass materials to create formaldehyde-free adhesives derived from renewable sources, such as lignin–furfural, lignin–soy protein, and polyethyleneimine adhesives (PEI) and despite of encouraging advancements, developing lignin-based adhesives that surpass the performance of fossil-based adhesives remains a significant challenge. This project provides an experimentation progress in the research and commercial application of lignin-PEI based adhesives for wood products. Additionally, it offers insights and perspectives on the future potential of lignin-based adhesives. |
