Abstract: | The goal of the project was to discover a more eco-friendly and environmentally hazardous-free technique for caustic recovery in the paper industry. Paper producers pay a significant price for causticisation which is based on lime and recovery of lime by high-temperature calcination in rotary kilns since these processes use an excessive amount of fresh water and energy, produce solid waste and particle matter, and frequently fail. At the same time, the main aim is to replace conventional technology with electro-electrodialysis (EED) and later on, make it into a continuous process. Additionally, energy consumption is kept to a minimum, and current efficiency is maximized during the electrolysis process. The main aim of this study is to produce caustic using a direct approach that is more environmentally friendly with improved caustic recovery and performance parameters simultaneously. The different spacer designs and modified membrane corrugation have been investigated in the COMSOL Multiphysics. These simulated results show how flowing electrolytes' velocity profile and vorticity enhance the ion transport properties. |
