Abstract: The occurrence of bone fractures is a common problem in humans and can be caused by factors such as high pressure on the bone, accidents, osteoporosis, and bone cancer. Image processing tech-niques have numerous applications in fields such as biology, security, satellite imagery, medicine, personal photos, etc. Image enhancement, image edge detection, and feature extraction are com-monly used procedures in fracture detection systems. In this project, we have utilized the Sobel edge detection method for hardware implementation using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). The Sobel method provides accurate information from bone images, and the main objective of this project is to detect human bone fractures in X-Ray images. The proposed system consists of four steps: image fetching, preprocessing, segmentation, and display of edge detected xray to help doctors in diagnosis of fracture. FPGA platforms are well-suited for making improvements due to their specialized internal struc-ture. A novel edge detection architecture is proposed in this project that is optimized for FPGAS, resulting in lower costs, reduced power consumption, and high-speed control.
