Abstract: | Modern power systems, such as microgrids, are susceptible to cyber-attacks due to advanced technologies and open communication networks. These cyber-attacks have the potential to disrupt and destabilize various microgrid operations, including load frequency control (LFC), thereby posing a threat to both the power infrastructure and the economy. Initially, this work categorized various types of cyber-attacks that pose a risk to the LFC system. Multiple attack scenarios were simulated to analyze their effect on the frequency deviation response in two area systems. Then, a hybrid microgrid system with a communication time delay is considered, and a time delay cyber-attack (TDCAs) is introduced in the LFC loop. A TDCAs is an attacker’s intentional attempt to destabilize a power system by interfering with the communication channel between the centralized controller and sensors involved in LFC. To nullify the impact of TDCAs, an Improved Non-linear Active Disturbance Rejection Controller (INADRC) with a switching-based mechanism is utilized. The INADRC provides improved and satisfactory performance in hybrid-microgrid systems by overcoming load disturbance, random variations, and communication time delay issues. The proposed technique nullifies the TDCA from LFC operation in hybrid microgrid and provides a better response as verified by the simulation study. |
