Abstract: The skirts are the vertical extension of the shallow footing. The main idea behind is to enhance the soil structure interaction and thereby to improve bearing capacity of the soil and reduce the vulnerability to settlement. Due to urbanization and scarcity of land available for construction, now the engineers are moving towards the less desirable land, such as hilly regions. The weak soil and the soil on slope are prone to settlement. Therefore, the settlement study of the skirted footing on different parameters becomes important be it geometrical or soil parameter. Hence, load settlement behavior of skirted footing is discussed in this thesis. For parametric study different skirt inclination, skirt length, soil angle of friction, slopes are considered during numerical analysis and later some experiments are also performed. The effect of skirt inclination, skirt length, slope etc. are being addressed in the present study.
