dc.description.abstractThe Time History Method of analysis is a better method for evaluating the response of a system under dynamic loading as compared to the Response Spectrum (RS) method. For evaluation of the response of an MDOF system obtained using the RS method considering the effects of ground motions in all three directions, the current design code IS 1893 Part 1: 2016 recommends the 30 percent whose practical correctness is questionable. It is very unlikely that the maximum ground acceleration due to earthquake occurs at same time while considering the different component of earthquake. So, the rules for finding the combined effect using the square root of the sum of the squares (SRSS) leads to conservative estimates. The process of time history analysis can be accelerated with the help of multithreading. With the increasing complexity of the structure the time required to perform analysis also increases and hence multithreading comes handy. It is very much beneficial if the process of evaluation of the response of a structure for applied time histories can be parallelized using the process of multithreading. OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing) is one such library that can be used either with C++ or Fortran. In multithreading each core can host a different number of threads depending on the type of processor. The default computation can be distributed among these threads for faster calculation which saves time.en_US
