Abstract: | This thesis focuses on outlining the planning and design of a campus distribution system to meet the increasing demand for electromobility. As electric vehicle infrastructure rapidly expands, distribution network operators must anticipate higher power demand and more converter systems connecting to their grids. It's crucial to assess the impact on power quality, including factors like under voltage, power losses, power quality, and harmonic distortion. To address this, comprehensive planning and simulations are essential for quantitative analysis of the distribution grid's impact and mitigation techniques. The goal in this thesis is to ensure reliable integration of charging stations with the grid for seamless transition to a high EV future. this thesis report, we have developed a simulation model in openDSS to assess the impact of increased general load and electric vehicle (EV) load by 2030. The objective is to evaluate the effects on our existing electrical distribution system and determine necessary upgrades to ensure safe, reliable, economical, and high-quality power delivery to offices, hostels, and residences within the campus. This simulation considers campus-wide implications and aims to predict physical changes necessary for optimal system performance. This research signifies a notable advancement in the field of simulation modeling for infrastructure planning. It emphasizes the potential for cost savings through informed decision-making based on essential changes identified in the existing system. |
