This dissertation examines the assessment of pedestrianization in the urban commercial market space, specifically focusing on the Lajpat Nagar Market and Karol Bagh Market in Delhi, India. The research aims to evaluate the impact of pedestrianization on various key attributes, including parking availability, accessibility, cleanliness, safety, security, lighting, universal accessibility, aesthetics, and the overall shopping experience. These attributes were identified through an extensive review of existing literature and a primary site survey conducted in the selected markets. To gather relevant data, a comprehensive questionnaire was developed utilizing the Likert scale, which allowed for a nuanced understanding of the experiences and perspectives of both shoppers and shopkeepers before and after the implementation of pedestrianization measures. Moreover, this study expands its focus beyond the immediate market vicinity to examine the surrounding areas, considering aspects such as the pedestrian-friendliness of the external environment and the overall safety and security conditions.en_US
