Abstract: | Tribal education in India, particularly in regions such as Khunti, Jharkhand, has long been plagued by challenges that hinder the holistic development and educational progress of tribal students. These challenges often lead to high dropout rates and limited access to quality education, exacerbating the existing disparities. This study seeks to delve into the shortcomings of tribal education in general and explore the reasons behind tribal student dropouts specifically in Khunti, Jharkhand. This study aims to address the shortcomings in tribal education and explore the reasons behind tribal student dropouts in the Jharkhand state. By conducting a field visit, interviews with tribal students and dropouts, and a comprehensive literature review, this research delves into the challenges faced at different stages of tribal education in the area. The study uncovers that the difficulties in advancing tribal education in Khunti, Jharkhand, do not primarily arise from the quality or intention of programs and plans implemented up till now. Instead, there is lack of focus on the capacity for effective implementation and intricate planning. This study examines the reasons behind the limited success in implementing proposed action and explores what alternatives can be employed or improvisation in those plans and schemes for better results. Drawing on the findings from the field research and literature review, this study proposes a range of actions to enhance implementation capacity. These actions involve building the necessary skills and knowledge among teachers, administrators, and stakeholders through training and capacity building programs. Student support programs during cultivation seasons, vocational training with incentives, self-development classes, and initiatives to improve physical accessibility. Expert support and collaboration between government bodies, NGOs, and educational institutions are identified as key factors in overcoming implementation challenges. The study also emphasizes the importance of a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and identify areas for improvement. |
