The “Impact of Kaliyasote Dam Breach on The Downstream Reaches In Bhopal City” is studied in this thesis work. The Dam is a part of the critical infrastructure system. It is used for irrigation and water supply purposes, and its location is critical to the city of Bhopal as its downstream reach directly affects the city's residential and commercial areas. Literature on design flood estimation methods and design flood of Kaliyasote dam, in particular, have been reviewed. The Flood Estimation Report of subzone 1c has been followed for design flood estimation. The earthen dam breach modelling study of Kaliyasote dam is done using HECRAS software. Inundation maps have been prepared for different scenarios following the Central Water Commission's Emergency Action Plan (EAP) guidelines. The design outflow hydrograph from Bhadbhada dam, finalised by the Dam Safety Review Panel of Kaliyasote dam with suitable amplification to take care of the intercepting catchment, has been used for dam breach modelling studies. Dam breach modelling has been performed using HEC-RAS; modelling output was obtained for plotting the map in Arc-GIS. The Arc-GIS map superimposed and georeferenced with the ward map of Bhopal city helps locate the vulnerable area due to the breach of Kaliyasote dam.en_US
