Abstract: | In the present study, micro-ultrasonic machining was used to fabricate 3D open microchannels and drilling of micro hole on commercially available borosilicate glass. The effect of machining parameters on the quality of micro-channels and drilled micro hole with respect to material removal rate and tool wear rate were investigated. The analysis was carried out considering power rating, slurry concentration and slurry flow rate as input parameters. For the drilling micro hole repeated experiments were conducted to see the influence of power rating and slurry concentration on material removal rate and tool wear rate. Response surface methodology was used to analyze the influence of machining parameters on performance characteristics for developments of micro-channel. The numbers of runs for experiment were decided by using Box-Behnken approach of response surface methodology. The experiments were carried out using three slurry media water, milk and alcohol and water solution for the development of micro-channels. It has been seen that tool wear is minimum when milk was used as slurry media. |
