Abstract: | This study investigates Near-dry Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) in order to achieve comparable material removal rate (MRR) and better surface finish then conventional EDM on HSS workpicce using Taguchi L27 orthogonal array. This study also provide a comparison between Near-dry FI)M and Dry EDM. The experiments have been conducted by mixing of minimum quantities ofdistilled water with air (water-mist). To obtain holes by Near-dry EDM, hollow tube of Cu tool is used. This study provides a simple device which is used as an attachment for near- dry electrical discharge machining. It was found that Near-dry EDM produces no toxic fumes so called environmentally friendly machining process. For the applied operating conditions, the Near-dry electrical discharge machining presents better surface quality or the machining surface and less electrode tool wear when compared with the machined surface that uses liquid as a dielectric. The effect of different process parameters like applied current, duty factor, gap control, sensitivity, Tool lift was analyzed on MRR, surface tThish and tool wear rate. |
